New website for students

An impressive new website for secondary school students, The Holocaust Explained www.theholocaustexplained.org has been created by the London Jewish Cultural Centre (LJCC).

The first stage of the website is targeted at Key Stage 3 students and draws upon a wealth of archival material and powerful video interviews with Holocaust survivors. It is matched to the compulsory school curriculum in England and is intended to promote independent learning about the Holocaust outside the classroom by students across the UK. Sections on the site for Key Stage 4 and 5 will be launched in Summer and Winter 2011.

Alan Fell, Project Director of The Holocaust Explained said: “The Holocaust story is often not related to our younger generations in ways they can understand. In our research both teachers and students told us of the difficulties they have receiving and providing full, accessible information on what happened in Europe just decades ago. The Holocaust Explained is a first. It is approachable and easy to navigate, offering multimedia explanations to help young people understand the gravity of the Holocaust and why such events should never be allowed to happen again.”
