Resources
The HEDP provides a wide range of teaching and learning resources and reference materials free of charge. Some of these are publicly available and can be accessed below. Most are available only to participants in the CPD programme, a two day workshop being run in different regions across the country.
Register for the CPD and confirm your place to begin accessing the many free materials for use in your classroom. This section provides an overview of some of the resources available and a preview of sample classroom materials and other resources.
Lesson Activities: Sample
'Ordinary Things?' is a lesson activity that explores the power of seemingly everyday objects to reveal intensely moving stories about the Holocaust. Part of this activity is the following eight minute film, developed for the United Nations by the HEDP and the Holocaust Centre.
'Ordinary Things?' integrates the video 'Footprints' into a classroom activity and is described in full in this PDF document, which provides a detailed lesson plan, pedagogical explanation and outcomes for exploring the Holocaust through authentic artefacts.
The 'Ordinary Things?' PowerPoint presentation accompanies and complements the video 'Footprints' and is available to confirmed participants on the CPD programme. Register and book your place on the free CPD to access this and many other educational resources.
Stimulus material for class discussion
The Institute has worked closely with Teachers TV to develop original and stimulating educational materials for classroom use. Using rarely seen archival film, original artefacts and documents, and interviews with eye-witnesses, the series of six short videos are each accompanied by suggestions for how to integrate these powerful stories into your classroom, created by members of the Institute's Holocaust Education Development Programme.
